In this workshop, participants will learn how to make their own home-compostable bioplastics. This workshop is designed for artists, designers, and creatives of all types who are interested in integrating healthier, biobased mediums into their practice. After an introduction to bioplastics and a deeper dive into algae based materials, participants will cast Halloween-themed decals for everyone to take home.
Many art and design materials are derived from fossil fuel resources, and this workshop will offer a new perspective on what’s possible with more sustainable options. While the workshop will be focusing on algae-based bioplastics, it will also introduce other materials and methods that are just as accessible, with the potential to become more specific to an individuals practice. The goal is to have fun crafting spooky designs, but also to spark discussion on how these materials can be used in both 2D and 3D work, helping you think more critically about the materials you choose. All materials will be provided. No science background necessary!

Instructor Bio
Emily is an industrial designer and educator based in Brooklyn, NY. She is passionate about healthier, bio-based materials, integrating them into both her artistic practice and professional projects. Emily studied at NYU Gallatin and Pratt Institute and is currently part-time faculty at Parsons.
