Now in its fourth year, Omved Gardens’ Seed Saving Network has distributed free open-pollinated seeds to growers across Britain. They want people to grow wherever they can – in flats, allotments, window boxes, community gardens, houseboats, and tower blocks – if there is space for sowing, get growing!

Omved Gardens thinks that growing food and saving seed is one of the most important things we can do to promote a healthy and biodiverse planet in which we all have a stake.

Join Omved Gardens on 14th October to celebrate seed saving. The programme will include the autumnal seed swap, a forum to converse and share seed-saving stories and knowledge, some food and a chance to see our brand new hand-built seed cleaning machine in action!

Swap seeds, meet other seed savers, exchange seed stories and spend some quiet time at the gardens.

If you have a large amount of seeds that need cleaning, please bring them in to be used in their seed-saving machine. In the future, the machine will be a shared resource for the community. Email: info@seedsaving.network if you would like to use the machine!

Donations:

Your donations will contribute toward a ‘seed-fund’— initiated by the Seed Saving Network and Omved Gardens—for a local community group, allotment society and/or food-growing project, to begin or bolster their own seed saving journeys, be that through buying seeds, equipment, books, or however they need. They’re not yet inviting expressions of interest for this fund but watch this space!

Schedule

This is a drop-in session, so you don’t need to come for the whole day.

All day – Seed Swap – Vicky, Randa and Tej will be holding a seed swap throughout the day, so don’t forget to bring your spare seeds to swap and take some new varieties.

Hand-made Seed Cleaning Demonstration – See their brand-new machine in action, built from a design by Real Seeds. There will  be a demonstration on how to clean using the machine at different times of the day. If you have an abundance of seeds that need to be separated from their chaff, bring them in, and they can clean them together!

All Day – Seed sensory activity – A freeflow sensory activity with seeds!

12-3 pm – Samosas and chai – Samosas and Chai! Samosas, Homemade Chutneys and Homemade Vegan Chai are for sale. Please bring your own cup.

12, 1, 2, 3 & 4 pm – Seed of Hope Documentary – Watch a short documentary showcasing the work of the Jeevika Development Society. An organisation in West Bengal, India, which works to support livelihoods in sustainable agriculture and promote gender equality amongst farmers.

12:15 – 1 pm -The Seed Saving Forum – Led by Randa, a forum to exchange seed-saving stories and knowledge sharing.

The Seed Saving Network

The Seed Saving Network is an initiative by Omved Gardens. In addition to sharing seed amongst our community, we are building a living seed bank, growing, storing and collecting data on organic seed at our kitchen garden in Highgate, North London.
