Nature is for the birds! In this community bird walk, participants will become familiar with our local “backyard birds” and migratory birds and be able to identify them with sight and sound. This walking workshop will allow us to discuss community and bird behavior across themes of migration, symbolism, and more.
Each walk will end with a moment of reflection and journaling in response to a writing prompt provided by the artist.
November Prompt:
Have you seen a group of birds of different species feeding or wading together? Mixed species flocks can have a similar appearance like a group of black birds (European Starlings, Common Grackles, Cowbirds) forging together or gulls. Mixed species flocks can also contain birds like Willow Tit that have the ability to make various calls, possibly communicating important food and safety information. Think about your community, how do similar ways of communicating and similar appearances make you feel safe or seen in these spaces?
