MOLD (thisismold.com) is seeking an assistant editor. This person must be highly organized, communicative, detail-oriented, and creative, with a demonstrable passion for storytelling in its myriad forms and a belief in design and its potential to empower and transform communities.
The primary duties of the job are to research and pitch story ideas and editorial franchises, edit contributor texts, and produce written and multimedia content on a weekly schedule. The assistant editor will report to the editor and assist in running the online component of the magazine. This person should have extensive knowledge of the current editorial scene and broad interest in arts, culture, science and technology. The candidate should be excited by new media opportunities to tell stories and connect to communities through platforms that include but are not limited to social media, subscription-based newsletters, discussion boards, podcasts, and serialized video.
Familiarity with online publishing platforms, ability to adhere to an editorial style guide, and fluency in google docs is a must. Experience with wordpress, HTML and mailchimp is helpful.
This is a part-time position with an estimated commitment of 8-10 hours per week. The ideal candidate would have at least 3 years of relevant experience. Candidates will work remotely but will need to be available for weekly calls with the editor during working hours who is based in New York City.
Weekly duties include but are not limited to
- Checkin with regular contributors
- Edit and produce stories from contributors
- Write and publish one short form story for the website
- General editorial research
- Maintain backend content flow on site
- Pitch upcoming stories to editor
- Work with design assistant to sharpen social media voice and maintain production
Bi-weekly duties include but are not limited to
- Send out bi-monthly newsletter to subscribers
Monthly duties include but are not limited to
- Write and publish one long-form story for the website
