Los Angeles-based artist, designer and illustrator Ariel Roman has had a hand in some of our favorite food projects of recent years: as 1/3 of Hella Crisis, she helped art direct the first cookbook from the roving party caterer Dante’s Fried Chicken, illustrated a handful of stories for the food and travel digital magazine On Plate Still Hungry and more recently we were fanning out over the work she did with the gay food culture zine MouthFeel Magazine.

For MOLD’s design week newspaper, SNACKS #01, Roman created the rainbow-colored illustration, “Just a Little Something (Amor Prohibido),” an homage to a most refreshing and elaborate snack that is popular in Los Angeles, the raspado. The Mexican shaved ice has an infinite number of varieties but the key to a good raspado is shaved ice, fresh fruit-syrup, and fresh fruit as a topping.
