Sarah Illenberger is the rare artist that works fluidly across craft, graphic design and photography. We first became familiar with her editorial work for The New York Times Magazine and were delighted to discover her humorous, vivid food photography that transforms the familiar textures, colors and forms of our favorite foods—including fruits in her Tutti Frutti series—into delightful visual puns. Illenberger hopes to, “explore the fertile overlap between art and design,” she tells MOLD, by incorporating the rigorous work of handcrafting objects, from painting patterns on the leaves of houseplants to staging abstract sculptural still life, into her art practice. Illenberger has collaborated with a diverse range of clients including Nike, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair and Diesel.
