When the artist duo Adam Frezza and Terri Chiao, also known as CHIAOZZA, were commissioned for three custom sculptures using the motif of food, “we immediately thought of a slice of cake, a turkey leg, and a hot dog.” The final works are whimsical yet familiar, the playful colors, detailed patterning and abstracted forms allude to the archetypes without aping them.

For MOLD’s design week newspaper, SNACKS #01, CHIAOZZA photographed the vignette of the three food sculptures appropriately named, “Slice of Cake, Turkey Leg, Hot Dog”. Like much of their sculptural work, the original pieces are made with painted paper pulp, paper, glitter, and pigmented concrete. See more of their work in person at Sight Unseen’s OFFSITE where they are debuting a new collaboration with the graphic designer Alex Proba and their “Paper Paperweights” at the NYCxSkymall group show at the Wintercheck Factory in Brooklyn.
