Digital collage has become a contemporary medium for mining the intersection of craft and visual paradox. California-based collage artist Tyler Spangler approaches the medium with a unique eye for pattern, psychedelia and color that is a nod to his punk and surf roots—Spangler ran an illegal punk venue for 13 shows before it got shut down by the police. The Art Center dropout works from a “250 sq ft. half trailed on the beach…next to a window with views to the ocean,” as he told format, with clients across music, surf and textile industry like Outkast, Little Dragon and PacSun.

For MOLD’s design week newspaper, SNACKS #01, Spangler created “Fried Away,” a simple homage to our favorite breakfast staple and one of the artist’s favorite visual motifs. As Spangler told MOLD, “I love eggs. Many great dishes and days start with a good pair of eggs.” Check out Spangler’s Society 6 shop for prints and buy his awesome Egg Towel for summer fry-days.
